Vol. 2, Chapter 23: War of the Titans (Part 2)

There is a resistance meeting at a closed bar. There’s still a woman at the bar serving drinks to some of the members. Gabriel and Felicia are filling in the rest of the room what they know about what happened with the FBI and Isaac.
Nathan
This is quite the disturbing turn of events.

Lisa
So the FBI have him right now?

Gabriel
Yes, but from what I’ve seen he went willingly after he beat Bennett to a pulp.

Lisa
This man is extremely disturbed.

Sean
No kidding.

Lisa
No I mean, he really needs help. We should find a way to help him.
The room goes silent and everyone stares at Lisa.
Lisa
Look, I know he’s hurt people and he’s insane, but something really traumatic happened to him and it’s because of the Pod that my husband made. Adam would be appalled and want to treat his condition. We should maybe try to get him to LifeSource.
Gabriel speaks as seriously as he can to Lisa.
Gabriel
Lisa, if you’ve seen what he did yesterday like I saw, you wouldn’t be saying that. There are FBI agents dead because of him only because they were in the way of him getting to Cole Bennett. He thinks this is a game and he doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process. I don’t think there’s anything we can do to help him.

Lisa
So what now, then?

Nathan
We need to focus on our goal. The public opinion of Protesters have turned in our favour. We can manipulate the media and try to persuade the world to reconsider the Pods and have politicians put pressure on the government to change our laws. We can abolish the Protester movement silently and efficiently.

Lisa
… That’s it?
The room again looks towards Lisa.
Lisa
That’s your big plan? There are war-starting events happening right now that we should be worried about.

Nathan
That’s not our fight. It’s too big for us. This group was created so that the Pods…

Lisa
The Pods are broken!
Nobody in the room moves.
Lisa
If Isaac is any proof, it’s that these machines are dangerous and unless we find a way to remove the effects they create it will only make more men like Isaac and soon we’ll be on the brink of war.

Nathan
Don’t think for a second that it hasn’t crossed my mind but we will not stray from our goals now that we’re so close. We just don’t have the power to take on this situation. I’m sure Felicia is keeping tabs with her contacts in the military to deal with this situation but right now we need to focus on what we can do.

Lisa
The best thing to do is to bring Isaac to Lionel Sabatelli and break out my husband so they can look into this problem and figure it out. The government was right; allowing Pods to be used in their current stage is too dangerous.
Gabriel puts his hand on Lisa’s shoulder.
Gabriel
Lisa…
Lisa grabs Gabriel’s wrist and breaks it with one twist. Gabriel shouts in pain.
Lisa
Don’t you… oh my God! Are… you okay? Did I really twist it that hard?

Gabriel
Well… I think you may be right.

Saunders, Larken, and Thompson are standing in front of Isaac, who is heavily chained up to a wall. Saunders has a pondering look on his face and is completely silent. Finally, Larken interrupts the silence.

Larken
Well, are you going to say anything? I thought you wanted to question him.

Saunders
Shh! Just… let me think…
There is another long period of silence. Saunders begins to open his mouth but then changes his mind.
Saunders
Hmm…

Thompson
Sir, I think you should really…
Saunders stops Thompson by raising his index finger indicating to give him a minute. Finally, he asks Isaac a question.
Saunders
Can you break out of these chains?
Isaac lets out a giant grin and snickers.
Larken
That’s your question?

Saunders
I just have a feeling these aren’t going to hold him. I think he’s here on his own free will.

Larken
Trust me, Jason, these chains can hold a…
Isaac lets out a terrifying roar which sends Larken and Thompson flying backwards in fear, while Saunders still stands in his statuesque pose.
Saunders
You have terrible breath.
Saunders turns around and walks away.
Thompson
Where are you going?

Saunders
Take his chains off and make him more comfortable. Then I’ll talk to him.
Thompson turns around and looks at Isaac in fear. Larken gets up and dusts himself off.
Larken
You heard the man.
Larken leaves the room. Isaac shows his menacing grin again as Thompson lets out a big gulp.

Bobby is watching the people working on the new Pod designs behind a glass window. Saunders walks up to him.
Bobby
That was a fast interrogation.

Saunders
Decided I wanted a different approach to questioning him. I’ll see him again later.
Bobby doesn’t take his stare away from the glass and Saunders knows he’s fixated on Adam Fields. He decides to get Bobby’s attention.
Saunders
Let me ask you something. You have been giving out information on how to steal Pods. Do you know anything about this guy?

Bobby
No. I never got too close to my customers to care who they are or what they would use them for.

Saunders
What about that man that mysteriously came to you? We still haven’t been able to find him based on your description.

Bobby
I told you all I know, but I wouldn’t doubt if he knew something about it. Maybe that Isaac guy will give you information on him.

Saunders
What about Nico?

Bobby
Possibly.
The two are silent for a moment.
Saunders
What are you thinking?

Bobby
I think I can get Joe Tyler to lead us to his daughter.

Saunders
But you’re worried about betraying your closest friend.
Bobby doesn’t say a word.
Saunders
You know, Fields is working as hard as he can now. I don’t even think we need his wife anymore. If you want, you can back out.

Bobby
But our deal wouldn’t stand.

Saunders
Tell you what, I won’t convince you what to do. If you want to go down that road and you can make it happen, our deal stands. If you want to back out, then nothing changes and you go back to your life. It’s your choice, but don’t think I’ll be giving you any more free passes. If you come across my radar again I’m going to have to take you in.

Bobby
Are you going to hurt her?

Saunders
I’m not planning on it.
A loud scream from Thompson echoes down the hall.
Thompson
Ow! God, my arm!

Saunders
That’s my queue.
