Adam Fields, genius in the medical field, and his research partner, Lionel Sabatelli, invent a machine to regenerate a person after they’ve been recently deceased so long as there is no significant trauma to the brain. Originally made for military purposes, these machines soon became widespread across the country. After redesigns in the technology, they were given the simple name Pods because of their pod-shaped look. At first the reaction to the technology was praised, but only for a short amount of time. It wasn’t long until conservative religious groups grew a following towards an anti-Pod campaign. The theory was that no man has the right to play God; once the soul leaves the body the person is no longer the same. This activist community had developed the generic name Protesters; a term commonly used in the media that stuck.
This was not the only issue as a result of the Pods. With less concern for death, many people started living like they had nine lives; not caring about their safety or the safety of others. There was also a significant decrease in the death rate which caused a population spike. A few years later these issues began to grow rapidly, which in turn forced the government into action. A new law was passed regarding the use of the Pods. The Pods would only be used to revive a person for twenty four hours so that their loved ones can say their proper goodbyes. After that, a person would have to be “shutdown” in the Pod. This was a very controversial move that caused a lot of outrage, but in turn solved most of the problems that needed to be solved. The year is 2022. This is where the story begins.
